CHEMEON eTCP® RTU is a premixed, ready-to-apply conversion coating and anodic seal. No mixing or formulas—simply open and apply by spray, brush, or immersion. RTU provides energy savings when used as an anodic seal (MIL-PRF-8625), meets TT-C-490F Type VI, and has completed formal evaluation by the Naval Air Warfare Center, earning QPL approval for MIL-DTL-81706 and MIL-DTL-5541. With short lead times and no supply chain delays, eTCP RTU ships quickly and reliably to support aerospace, defense, and commercial applications.

CHEMEON eTCP Touch-Up Pen is a DoD standard for small intricate part touch ups, MRO and field repair. Easy to use 1.5 oz pen applicator is in stock and ready to ship. For use on aluminum alloys, magnesium, IVD aluminum, zinc and zinc alloys, zinc-nickel and cadmium. CHEMEON Cleaner 4100 Pen, single step cleaner and acid activator, is also available.

CHEMEON eTCP Powder allows the flexibility to control bath concentration for optimal processing. Powder offers transportation and storage savings reducing shipping weight, transit times and storage space —1 lb of powder is equivalent to 135 lbs of liquid—cutting costs and environmental footprint. Like RTU, Powder features a visual indicator for efficient QC/QA and is QPL approved.

FAQs: eTCP

What is eTCP® and what makes it unique?

eTCP® is CHEMEON’s patented trivalent chromium conversion coating with a signature purple/violet visual color indicator that confirms proper application. Parts are coated and protected. It provides superior corrosion protection, adhesion, and performance as a MIL-DTL-81706 / MIL-DTL-5541 Type II solution.

Is eTCP® qualified under military specifications?

Yes — QPL-listed for MIL-DTL-81706 (Type II, Class 1A and 3) in multiple forms and methods. Proven in aerospace, Navy, Army, Marine, Space, and OEM applications.

What formats is eTCP® available in?

RTU liquids, powders, concentrates, spray, brush, immersion, and convenient touch-up pens/ and wipe kits for field/MRO use. eTCP National Stock Numbers (NSN) allow for easy DoD purchasing via DLA around the world.

How does eTCP® compare to hexavalent chrome?

It offers comparable or better performance specifically on 2024 aluminum while being safe and fully REACH compliant. The signature purple/violet visual color indicator is a major advantage for quality control.

Can eTCP® be used for field repairs and touch-ups?

Yes — our touch-up pens and SurfGard wipe brush kits are specifically designed for MRO, OEM field repair, and maintenance with full MIL-DTL qualification and performance.

How does 3D metrology support eTCP® applications?

The VK-X3000 provides non-contact analysis of coating uniformity, surface preparation, and alloy defect detection — excellent for process validation and troubleshooting.

Is training available for eTCP® implementation?

Yes — our exclusive anodizing and conversion coating classes (limited sessions yearly) include modules on optimal use of eTCP® and related chemistry.

How can I get started with eTCP®?

Request samples, technical data, or a guided trial. Our team provides full support including bath setup, titration, and integration recommendations.

Are CHEMEON products available through NSN / DLA, and how can global military partners in the US and Europe access them?
Yes — many CHEMEON products, including eTCP® and TCP-HF trivalent chromium conversion coatings, are available through the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) via National Stock Numbers (NSNs). This provides streamlined procurement for U.S. military and authorized partners.

For global military partners:

  • United States: Direct access through DLA, primes, and authorized distributors with NSN support for qualified products.
  • Europe and International: Availability through our authorized international distributor/resellers, enabling efficient supply to NATO and allied forces. CHEMEON maintains strong compliance with MIL-DTL, REACH and other international standards to support global defense and environmental programs.

Our team can assist with tailored procurement solutions. Contact us directly at info@chemeon.com for current NSN listings, availability, or to discuss your specific military or international requirements. Dr. Sjon Westre and the technical team are available for technical discussions on compliance and application.

FAQs: MIL-DTL-81706 Chemical Conversion Materials

What is MIL-DTL-81706 and why does it matter for aluminum surface finishing?

MIL-DTL-81706 is the U.S. Department of Defense detail specification for chemical conversion materials used to form protective coatings on aluminum and aluminum alloys. It qualifies the chemistry (listed on QPL-81706), which must then meet performance requirements under MIL-DTL-5541. Key benefits include corrosion protection, paint adhesion, and electrical properties for aerospace, defense, and OEM applications. Type II (trivalent chromium or non-hexavalent) options are increasingly preferred for regulatory compliance.

What are the main differences between Type I and Type II under MIL-DTL-81706?

Yes — QPL-listed for MIL-DTL-81706 (Type II, Class 1A and 3) in multiple forms and methods. Proven in aerospace, Navy, Army, Marine, Space, and OEM applications.

  • Type I: Contains hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) — traditional but restricted due to toxicity and environmental regulations.
  • Type II: Hexavalent-free (trivalent chromium or alternatives) — RoHS/REACH compliant, safer, and the future standard. Both deliver equivalent performance within classes when using QPL-listed products, but Type II is recommended for new programs. CHEMEON’s eTCP® line is fully qualified Type II.
Which Classes and Methods are covered under MIL-DTL-81706?

Yes — QPL-listed for MIL-DTL-81706 (Type II, Class 1A and 3) in multiple forms and methods. Proven in aerospace, Navy, Army, Marine, Space, and OEM applications.

  • Class 1A: Maximum corrosion protection (unpainted or painted parts).
  • Class 3: Low electrical resistance (for electrical/electronic applications).
  • Methods: A (immersion), B (spray), C (brush), plus touch-up/repair options.
  • Forms: Include RTU liquids, powders, and pens for field/MRO use. CHEMEON eTCP® products qualify across multiple forms/methods for maximum flexibility.
Is CHEMEON eTCP® qualified under MIL-DTL-81706?

Yes. CHEMEON’s patented eTCP® (including RTU, Powder, TCP-HF, and touch-up kits) is listed on QPL-81706 for Type II, Class 1A and 3 applications. It provides a distinctive purple/violet visual color indicator that parts are properly coated and protected—unique among qualified options. Recent qualifications support immersion, spray, brush, wipe, touch-up pen and anodic sealing uses.

How does CHEMEON eTCP® compare for aerospace and military applications?
